Hot rolled C45 medium carbon steel plate for standard mold base

Description:
The medium carbon high strength carbon structural steel has high strength and hardness after quenching. The steel has medium machinability, low cold deformation plasticity, poor weldability, no temper brittleness during heat treatment, but low hardenability. The critical diameter in water is 13 * 30MM, and there is cracking tendency during water quenching. This steel is usually used after heat treatment such as normalizing, quenching and tempering, or high frequency surface quenching.
50 steel can be hardened to hrc42 ~ 46. Therefore, if the surface hardness is needed and the superior mechanical properties of 50 steel are expected to be exerted, the surface hardness of 50 steel can be obtained by carburizing and quenching.

5. Forging

AISI 1045 is heated in two steps, first to a temperature of 750 oC - 800 oC for a suitable time, then to a temperature of 1100 oC - 1200 oC for a sufficient time for the steel to be thoroughly heated, the minimum forging temperature is 850°C, so do not go below this temperature.

6. Normalizing

Normalizing is used to refine forged structures that may not cool uniformly after forging and is considered a conditioning treatment prior to the final heat treatment. normalizing of AISI 1045 steel should be done at temperatures between 870°C - 920°C, keeping the steel heated for a suitable time to complete the ferrite to austenite transformation.

7. Annealing

Annealing is considered a suitable treatment for processing. aISI 1045 should be carried out at a nominal temperature of 800°C-850°C, maintaining a suitable time to allow the steel to heat sufficiently and then cooling in the furnace.

8. Quenching

AISI 1045 can be quenched to improve surface hardness and strength. Usually heated to 820oC - 860oC, maintained for a suitable time to allow the steel to be heated uniformly, soaked for 10 - 15 minutes per 25mm section, then quenched in water or oil and tempered immediately after quenching.

9. Tempering

AISI 1045 steel is usually heated to 400oC - 650oC as required, maintained until the temperature is uniform throughout the section, immersed for 1 hour per 25mm section and cooled in still air.

10. Applications

Compared to AISI 1020, AISI 1045 has a lower alloy content, but can be fire or induction hardened to achieve high strength and is widely used in many industries where high strength and wear resistance are required.

Typical applications include axles, bolts, connecting rods, hydraulic clamps, rams, pins, rollers, bolts, shafts, spindles, sleeves, light gears, etc.
